Just concluded a productive 4-week trip to the Philippines where I met with students/faculty from the top universities, AmCham members, and industry leaders to discuss the emerging Cloud Computing trend. Overall, I met with over 200 people and left with the following impressions:
- ICT Industry leaders are aware of Cloud Computing’s importance, but unclear of specific implications to their respective industries. Much of my discussions revolved around connecting the dots between the massive cost-economies that the cloud will bring and the often eye-opening business value potential.
- Minimal Cloud Computing awareness outside of the ICT industry. Though there is an opportunity to educate, with a little bit of background, almost everyone I spoke with saw the potential to make IT available to the mass of small businesses and how Cloud computing enables Philippine Intellectual Property (IP) to profit locally and globally.
